About Us

The Kitchener Waterloo chapter of TCR is a tight knit community of volunteers dedicated to cat rescue.

Our cats are rescued from the Waterloo region and surrounding areas. We rescue cats from shelters, barns, the streets, overcrowding situations, and from owners who can no longer care for their cat. All of our cats are assessed and fully vetted before being placed for adoption. We rely on a network of volunteers (drivers, foster homes and store volunteers) to help each cat’s journey from the rescue stage to the adoption stage.

We have a great partnership with the Region of Waterloo PetSmart Stores. We are currently in the adoption centres of the PetSmart Cambridge, PetSmart Kitchener and PetSmart Waterloo stores. To maintain our partnership with these stores, we have a dedicated team of volunteers in each store who cover daily shifts to ensure the cats in each store are cared for physically and emotionally with play time outside of their cages.

Store Volunteers
Store Volunteers

Store volunteers are a vital part of the rescue role ensuring the TCR cats are cared for while at the store. Being in PetSmart allows our cats amazing exposure to potential adopters and we adopt hundreds of cats through our partner stores each year. Store volunteers are one of the main reasons why!

Foster Homes
Foster Homes

Essential to our ability to rescue cats are our foster homes. Foster homes care for TCR cats in their own home. They continue the socialization process with shy cats, monitor appetites, acclimatize outdoor cats to an indoor life, administer medication when needed, provide a safe place for a queen to raise her kittens, and even bottle feed orphaned kittens.

Drivers
Drivers

Being a volunteer TCR driver is a crucial role in helping rescue cats and we are always in need of drivers. We require drivers to help move our cats out of the shelters, to vet appointments, to foster homes, and to stores for adoption. Without our volunteer drivers many of our foster homes who do not drive would not be able to foster.
