Adopting with Toronto Cat Rescue
Hello potential adopters!
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue cat from us. Below you can find information regarding our adoption process here at TCR, including what to expect and our adoption fees. We kindly ask that you read the information below prior to calling or emailing us with adoption inquiries or questions.
the Adoption Process
1
Adoption Inquiry
Found a cat you’d like to adopt? Please fill out our adoption inquiry form. Or call us at 416-538-8592 (press 1 for adoptions and leave a message on your adoption inquiry).
2
Our Follow-up
After you’ve inquired about a cat, we will get back to you with what happens next. We’ll ask some questions about you and your home to make the purrfect match, and answer any questions you may have.
3
Meeting your Kitty
Once a match is made, we will schedule a meet and greet between you, the cat you are interested in, and its current foster home. If you decide it’s a match, you will sign the TCR Contract of Adoption, pay the adoption fee and arrange to bring your kitty home.

Our Adoption Fees
Due to demand and rescue intake, our adoption fees vary depending on the age of the rescue cat:
| Kittens (under 8 months) | $330 |
| Junior to Mature (8 months to 7 years) | $250 |
| Bonded pair (for cats 8 months and older) | $385 |
| Senior Cats | Adopter’s may choose their adoption fee, rather than our standard $250 fee. |
Our adoption fees includes spay or neuter, vaccination, and rabies vaccination (if age appropriate).
The adoption fee DOES NOT INCLUDE a mandatory City of Toronto cat license charge of $12.75 for Toronto residents, valid for one year.
Common FAQ
Due to the overwhelming number of inquiries, we are not able to accept applications for rescue cats that do not appear under our Adoptable Cats.
The journey to be ready for adoption is different for each cat, so we do not know when animals will be available in advance. When they are ready, they will be found under the Adoptable Cats section of our our website.
If you are interested in adopting a cat you met at one of our partner stores and they are not posted on our website, please complete our online adoption form.
Please note that we are unable to proceed with adoption applications from outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and the Region of Kitchener-Waterloo.
While we rescue cats from shelters in need in rural Ontario and Quebec to help cats at risk, we encourage potential adopters to support your local rescue groups.
Please check with rescue groups, your local shelter or humane society for available cats in your area.

Thanks to some great partnerships with pet stores in Toronto, the GTA, and Kitchener-Waterloo, we’re able to feature cats in their adoption centres to increase their exposure and chances of getting adopted. See below for stores you can find our foster cats in.
