Volunteer Centre Representative

Goal

Toronto Cat Rescue’s primary office is the Volunteer Centre, located at 4229C Dundas St W in Etobicoke. Because TCR is a network of foster homes and not a shelter, we do not have cats at this site. We use the centre for onsite business functions, but it is also the main hub for receiving donations and storing supplies, like food and cat carriers. The centre provides support and supplies to our foster homes, large cat rescues and the Feral Recovery Centre. The Volunteer Centre Representative (VCR) is the face of Toronto Cat Rescue at our Volunteer Centre. We are looking to add to our team of our front-line customer service superstars. If you can commit to covering a weekday shift that is 3-4 hours long, 2 or more times per month, you could be our next VCR.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring voicemail and email messages throughout the assigned shift

  • Answering general questions on the phone or at the door during their shift

  • Accepting donations of cat supplies at the centre

  • Organizing donations received

  • Processing orders from our online store and organizing pickup orders for TCR’s foster homes

  • Performing maintenance tasks at our centre (such as laundry and light cleaning)

  • Occasionally unpacking and shelving large food deliveries

Note: shifts vary in how busy they are. Sometimes there are may visitors, and VSS’s are busy answering questions and organizing. Other times are quieter. You can bring your laptop to the centre and catch up on personal tasks during many shifts.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Live in the west end of Toronto or east end of Mississauga, or have reliable access to our VC at Dundas St and Royal York Rd.

  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Friendly and customer focused when interacting with TCR clients and volunteers

  • Solid computer skills, specifically relating to email. Toronto Cat Rescue uses the Google platform, so previous knowledge of Google apps is an asset, but not a requirement

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision

  • Ability to troubleshoot occasional problems quickly and professionally

  • Accountable and able to meet strict deadlines

  • Reliable and able to commit to a scheduled shift one week to one month ahead of time

Training new volunteers takes time. As such, we ask that applicants be available to commit to at least 6 months of their time.
