Meet ROCCO - help him, and other cats!

Our annual Bowl-A-Thon is happening on Saturday, May 5th. It is a very important fundraiser for us because our supporters are raising funds to help cats in need... cats in desperate life saving need, like Rocco.Rocco is one of the saddest cases of neglect Toronto Cat Rescue has ever seen. He was found in horrible body condition - emaciated, fleas crawling all over him, severely anemic and a significant heart murmur. Worse yet, there was a massive wound on the side of his head covered in dangerously necrotic tissue (we have close up pictures that we are choosing not to share as they are so heartbreaking). This boy was dying painfully. He was in such rough shape, it was hard to tell his age, but the vet estimates he's around 6-8 years old.Because of our amazing volunteers and supporters, miracles do happen... and Rocco was rescued just in the nick of time. It took two weeks of aggressive medical care to get him stabilized, paired with his indomitable will to survive, he pulled through.Rocco is now putting on weight and regaining healthy colour back in his mucous membranes. His heart murmur is dramatically lower and he tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia. The wound on his head is mending nicely.Rocco earned his name because he's a champion fighter who surprised everyone with his recovery. He is currently with a Toronto Cat Rescue medical foster, receiving twice daily bandage changes. He's a good boy with a sweet disposition. We call him our feline Rocky Balboa: “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.
