Tech Lead Volunteer

Goal

To support Toronto Cat Rescue’s (TCR) mission by providing technical expertise to improve and maintain the organization’s digital systems, website, and internal technology tools. This role ensures our tech infrastructure remains efficient, secure, and accessible, helping our team and volunteers focus on rescuing and rehoming cats in need.

Help Us Make a Difference

As a Lead Tech Volunteer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving TCR’s digital presence. You’ll assist in troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing website functionality, supporting CRM/database management, and helping streamline our digital tools. Your work will directly impact TCR’s ability to raise funds, engage supporters, and facilitate cat adoptions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues related to the website, CRM, or other digital tools.

  • Support the integration and use of donor management and volunteer systems.

  • Help streamline internal tech processes, improving efficiency for staff and volunteers.

  • Provide recommendations on system improvements and digital best practices.

  • Ensure cybersecurity measures are in place to protect data.

  • Train staff and volunteers on basic technical processes when needed.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Experience with website management and basic HTML/CSS knowledge, desired

  • Familiarity with CRM systems, particularly donor or volunteer management software.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills for digital tools and cloud-based platforms.

  • Understanding of cybersecurity and best practices for data protection.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and accessible way.

  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to TCR’s mission.

  • Strong writing and research skills, with an ability to write persuasive and mission-driven proposals.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets) and comfortable using online research tools.

  • Estimated 3–5 hours per week, with some flexibility depending on project needs.

  • Remote role, with occasional in-person meetings or training sessions as needed.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with staff and volunteers.

Training new volunteers takes time. As such, we ask that applicants be available to commit to at least 6 months of their time.
