Miss Ariel’s Big CNE Win!

She just won ‘Best Household Pet’ & ‘Best All-Breed Companion’!

Miss Ariel, a former Toronto Cat Rescue foster, won 11 of 13 categories at this Saturday’s CNE Cat Show, including Best Household Pet and Best All-Breed Companion.

The judges at first were unsure how to categorize the non-pedigreed Miss Ariel, aged 17 months. They eventually determined the first-time competitor was a mixed patch tabby Van odd eyed.

Remarkable’, said judge Elaine Gleason of Miss Ariel's symmetrical tail and facial markings on an otherwise white body.

Judge Robert Gleason went further during the third round of judging. ‘This cat’s got it all going on - one blue eye, one copper eye. It’s got a kink in its tail like Zorro. You don’t see one of these everyday walking down the street.’

Miss Ariel, a shorthair, was one of 10 cats in the household pet and companion categories. The show, sponsored by the non-profit Canadian Cat Fanciers Club/Canadian Cat Association, also included judging of pedigreed breeding and non-breeding cats.

Miss Ariel was born last March in the home of her foster family. Her mother, Bianca, was an elderly queen rescued from a hoarding situation. Miss Ariel was the sole surviving kitten. She got her name because she used to wiggle across the floor like a little mermaid.

Miss Ariel as a Kitten

When it came time to post the mother-daughter duo for adoption, the daughter of the foster family stepped forward, even though she was volunteering in Africa at the time.

I always knew Miss Ariel was pretty’, said owner Rebecca Pataki, who enjoyed meeting fellow cat lovers at the show.

How amazing to hear that opinion seconded by professional judges’, she said.
