Healthcare Case Advisor

Goal: As a healthcare advisor, you will work as part of a high-functioning, multi-faceted team that triages health issues for cats and kittens within TCR’s foster program. The goal is to resolve minor health concerns in a cost-effective approach that promotes the health and well-being of the cat/kitten.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Basic understanding of common illnesses and treatment/medication, as well as the ability to learn cat-related medical terminology.

  • Ability to de-escalate reactive responses from invested caretakers and deal with sick and injured cats on a regular basis.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make difficult, objective decisions in accordance with TCR best practices philosophy and internal policies.

  • Be available to spend approximately one hour per day volunteering on a flexible schedule and able to respond to email in a timely manner with access to a smartphone and computer/laptop.

  • Be available to manage a heavier workload during kitten season (May to November)

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Must be 18 years or older.    

  • Knowledge of Toronto Cat Rescue is an asset.

  • Medical, rescue or shelter experience or extensive knowledge of cat health through fostering.

  • Proficient with Google applications (Google Sheets, Docs & Drive, Smartsheets, etc.) and a willingness to learn – training will be provided.

  • Strong teamwork, problem-solving skills and professional communication skills to work with staff, team leads and volunteers on the Healthcare Team.

  • Detail-oriented work ethic and ability to follow strict TCR protocols and guidelines, using good judgment.

Training new members takes time. As such, we ask that applicants be available to commit to at least 6 months of their time.
