A Message from our Board

Dear Toronto Cat Rescue community,

We want to express our deepest gratitude for the enduring support of our community, which has enabled us to find loving homes for cats in need, expand our volunteer and donor network, and forge strong partnerships, year after year. The passion and dedication of our community make all this possible.

While the Board of Directors continues planning for a future where we can save even more cats, our Strategic Planning Committee has come together to create TCR’s 2023 Bridge Plan. This plan will guide our work in the short-term and empower us to continue championing our key priorities as we undergo longer-term strategic planning.

The Board of Directors and our Executive Leadership Team are excited to continue on this journey, working with members of our community to achieve the initiatives laid out in this plan while charting a long-term path forward. We are certain, together, we will continue making a profound impact on the lives of cats in need, in 2024 and well into the future. Our deepest gratitude goes out to each and every one of you for being a vital part of our family.

Our Guiding Principles:

Our Five Priority Areas

1. Sustainability and Governance

Align governance with the gold standard so our Board can lead TCR in saving more cats

  • Refine governance structure

  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations

  • Invest in technology to create efficiencies

2. Financial and Fundraising Strength

Refine processes to ensure TCR is rooted in responsible and sustainable fiscal planning

  • Introduce updated budgeting and financial frameworks, and audit policies

  • Expand our individual and corporate donor reach

  • Develop a planned giving program fundraising stream

3. Cat Programs

Strengthen support for our volunteers in providing the highest quality of care for our cats

  • Introduce Cat Care Directives and Standard Operating Procedures

  • Enhance our Foster Program with new training and manuals

  • Support programs and services for pet and foster retention

4. Brand and Partnerships

Raise our public profile and expand strategic partnerships to increase awareness of TCR

  • Strengthen our existing partnerships and forge new ones

  • Increase communications efforts and reach new audiences

  • Develop a long-term strategic communications plan

5. Organizational Health and Capacity

Strengthen our organizational capacity so we can do more, sustainably

  • Develop and implement a recruitment plan for staff and volunteers

  • Formalize succession planning for critical roles

  • Create After Hours Emergency Team for urgent medical cases

  • Continue our commitment to a positive, supportive, inclusive culture
