Adoption Contract Agreement Items

  1. I understand that the adoption fee is non-refundable.

  2. I agree that I am adopting this pet as a companion animal and will treat him/her humanely at all times.

  3. I will keep the pet I am adopting in my personal possession. TCR must approve any proposed change of ownership, including surrender to a shelter or humane society.

  4. I understand that TCR cannot guarantee the health or disposition of any cat. Testing for FIV, Feline Leukemia or other potentially contagious viruses is not standard practice. I understand that my newly adopted cat may have been exposed to zoonotic diseases (such as Ringworm) and symptoms of these diseases may not be noticeable at the time of adoption. Some animals may be carriers of these diseases and never show symptoms.

  5. Any concerns about the cat’s health must be reported to TCR within the first 7 days of adopting. I understand that veterinary costs incurred during this period will not be reimbursed unless approved by TCR prior to the appointment.

  6. I agree that all veterinary bills, examination costs and treatments of any kind are my financial responsibility from this day forward.

  7. I understand that all adoptable TCR cats have been spayed/neutered and have received at least one FVRCP vaccination and rabies vaccination (if age appropriate), and at least one treatment of flea and parasite control. Further FVRCP vaccination boosters and any rabies vaccinations that may be required are my responsibility. Some cats in the program have been microchipped and if that is the case, TCR will register the microchip on my behalf.

  8. I understand that elimination of parasites such as Roundworm and Tapeworm may require more than one round of treatment (especially in kittens) and that I am solely responsible for any further treatments.

  9. I agree that this cat shall not be allowed outside unattended and it shall not be declawed.

  10. If my cat becomes lost, I agree to make immediate efforts to locate it and if not found, to notify TCR and any other animal shelters and groups who may help to recover it.

  11. The adoption fee includes a complimentary month of comprehensive pet insurance coverage through 24PetWatch. I understand it is my responsibility to provide my contact information to 24PetWatch for the purpose of administering the insurance program, and my responsibility to cancel the policy after the 30-day trial period. I understand that the insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions, such as upper respiratory infections.

  12. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. I understand that my contact information will be sent to Toronto Animal Services (TAS) approximately one week after adoption. TAS will issue and mail the license. I agree that it is my responsibility to renew the license yearly (as required by law).
