TCR Celebrates our Volunteers

Aasish Francis Carmen

Aasish Carmen is a newcomer to Canada and volunteers with Development & Peace, Toronto Bike Brigade, and bikeSauce, in addition to TCR. He works as a fundraiser for an international NGO enabling projects in social and ecological justice. He signed up as a store coordinator with TCR to befriend furry felines remotely, after his partner discovered their allergies around cats. Having grown up around cats (at one time his family was raising 19!) Aasish finds deep peace and comfort in their company. He is grateful for their constant reminder that very few things are truly important in life like eating, napping, sunbathing, occasionally hunting a toy, and cleaning behind the ears. Their ability to keep calm and purr on was an invaluable lesson during the pandemic, with all the added mental load and stress everyone's dealing with. He's also inspired to have met many wonderful humans at TCR giving of themselves selflessly (some even becoming #fosterfails! 😀) in striving to find each feline a forever family.

He recently joined the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee at TCR and is thrilled for the extra chances to see all kinds of cats strolling onto Zoom calls, tail up in the air!
