TORONTO CAT RESCUE RECEIVES $40,000 GRANT FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® OF CANADA TO HELP PREPARE HOMELESS CATS FOR ADOPTION
NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
AUGUST 8, 2022— TORONTO, ON – Toronto Cat Rescue received a $40,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare more adoptable cats to find new homes.
When cats are rescued from unhealthy hoarding or mass breeding situations, often, the cats are suffering from at least one, if not several more medical conditions needing attention and veterinary care. Toronto Cat Rescue thoroughly vets each cat for careful preparation of preventative health care needs before adoption.
Most cats receive medical treatment for common conditions, while many othersrequire extensive treatments and multiple surgeries to survive. The adoption preparation program includes spay/neuter services for all cats, vaccinations, microchipping, and an array of veterinary medical treatments. Toronto Cat Rescue’s adoption preparation program also includes tender care and time to recover at more than 400 volunteer foster homes.
“Canadians love cats, and they bring so much joy to our lives,” said Andrew Fraser, Adoption Grants Manager at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “We’re proud to support the important work our partners are doing at Toronto Cat Rescue to give more unsheltered cats the healthiest start possible in their new homes.”
Rescue cats have the best chance of survival and living their best lives in home environments with careful attention from trained volunteer fosters and the support of cat health and behavioural specialists. Keeping cats in homes instead of cages is a best practice in animal welfare, and PetSmart Charities of Canada’s Adoption Preparation Grant is a clear demonstration of their investment in best practices.
“PetSmart Charities of Canada is one of the leading charities in animal welfare,” said Bonnie Levine, Executive Director, Toronto Cat Rescue. We are utterly grateful for the impactful support PetSmart Charities of Canada provides to our r cats. The much-needed support ultimately enables sick, malnourished and neglected cats to have a fighting chance to survive and thrive through adoption by loving families. The $40,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada will enable Toronto Cat Rescue to provide a wide range of adoption preparation services to 150 cats!”
