A team of five TCR volunteers have registered for TCR’s 2013 Bowlathon on May 25th. They call themselves “Team Bear”. This moniker is in honour of Bear, a 10 year old semi-feral grey tabby boy who they took care of in a TCR managed feral colony. Sadly, in 2012 Bear was rushed to the vet because he was terribly sick. His organs were failing and there was no choice but to ease Bear’s pain, and say goodbye. One of these volunteers stood by Bear’s side until he peacefully passed away. Bear did not die alone, nor did he die in vain. To celebrate the life of Bear, this team is bowling to raise pledges for another needy senior boy: Mr. Bojangles.
Mr Bojangles is a 10 year old hunky male Tom who was part of a huge collaborative rescue effort involving the Toronto Humane Society, TCR and several other groups. He was one of 80 cats pulled from a home in Muskoka after the destructive flooding. An unknown number of cats perished in the flood, so Mr. Bojangles is very lucky to be alive. He has been neutered, vaccinated and treated for internal and external parasites. His blood work came back perfectly normal; however, Mr. Bojangles does need expensive dental work. He has a mouth full of bad teeth that are very painful for the poor guy, so extractions are required. The surgery is routine with only a short recovery period, but it’s quite costly.
Team Bear aims to raise enough for Mr. Bojangles and even a little extra for other needy kitties. If you would like to support Team Bear in this mission, please visit canadahelps and make a note that your pledge is for Mr. Bojangles.
Mr. Bojangles will be ready for his forever home within a week or two. With indoor living, good nutrition and regular vet visits, he has many happy years ahead of him – maybe even another decade. He is a sweet-natured, gentle boy who has loads of love to give to his new family. He also gets along very well with other cats. Please open your home and your heart to Mr Bojangles – a sweetheart of a senior boy!
