TCR does not have a shelter, we have a network of loving foster homes. Our cats are placed in our volunteer foster homes to await their adoption, which is why foster homes are such an important part of TCR’s program. Each foster home space that we have available represents one more cat that we can assist. All of our volunteers are important, but without foster homes and adoptions, we would not be able to rescue any cats. Our foster homes are always full because there is an endless need for them!
We always need Foster Homes for cats or kittens! If you are interested in literally saving and making lives better become a TCR foster parent.
Temporary Recovery Homes are also needed. Do you want to help the kitties, but just don’t know how or can’t commit to being a foster parent full time? Please become a temporary/recovery home. You will not be conducting adoptions from your home, you will only be helping a kitty get healthy. TCR needs people that are willing to take sick or recovering kitties into their home for a short term stay (short as one week, as long as four weeks). You will have to be comfortable giving medications, eg: pills, eye drops, etc… You will need a nice cozy room or area in your home that is quiet, away from your own cats if you have any, so kitty can happily get well in peace. Lots of support will be given from the TCR store and foster home coordinators.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about fostering, or if you would like to foster one of our many cats on our waiting list.
PLEASE NOTE: Toronto Cat Rescue cats may be moved from your home to a store or to an Adopt-A-Thon in order to help them be adopted. This decision is made by the executive members of TCR.

Hi! I’m interested in fostering a cat, of course I would have to discuss further with the other members of my family. I know for feral cats you have to have a separate room that basically no one uses. I live in a small bungalow and there’s not really a room in this house that people or my other pets (I have both a dog and another cat, who both have all their shots and are very well socialized) don’t enter, as everyone has access to every area of the house. I was wondering if it was still possible to foster if all my family members agreed, or no? Thanks!
Thanks so much Anastaszia! Please fill in our Foster Application and a volunteer will contact you shortly with more information. Short answer to your question: Yes, you can still foster with us (we will give you a kitty that has finished their two week quarantine).
I’d like to volunteer to foster a cat but I only have a one bedroom apartment. Do you allow people who live in apartment building to foster one of your cats or kittens? I’ve had cats for the last 30 years of my life and I lost my 2 cats this past year, one to diabetes and one we’re not sure why, he just stopped eating. I’m comfortable giving pills, shots, drops, subcutaneous liquids, pretty much anything you need but I live in a one bedroom apartment. I would be able to provide private space in my bedroom for any cat/kitten who needs it.
Hi Diane! We would love to have you has a new TCR foster family – please fill in the online form and one of our volunteers will contact you shortly to discuss.
Hi there,
I am very much interested in fostering, and was wondering if there is a place I would be able to go to in Toronto, to meet the cats available for fostering?
thanks!,
Justine
Hi Justine, Toronto Cat Rescue does not have shelter, we have a network of foster homes. Please fill in our foster application and we will follow-up with the cats that need fostering and who you would like to welcome into your home (cats already in foster care that need to move homes for various reasons, cats from the streets, or cats from high-kill shelters).
Hi there!
I was wondering, does TCR provide funding for food, litter and veterinary checkups? I’d love to be a foster parent for a cat, but this would help to convince my parents of the same!
Thanks!
-Julie
HI Julie, TCR pays for vet bills. Our foster homes supply the food and litter for their foster cat, but when we do get donations, we do pass them onto our foster homes.
Hello,
we are the foster family of Georgia, and previously Cuddles.
My daughter Jahlanka would like to volunteer with the Humane Society of Guelph. We both need a letter of recommendation. She already obtained one from her employer where she walks dogs. Could I get one from TCR, please? Cuddles and Georgia both came to us in need or administering medication twice a day and they both thrived with us — Georgia still does.
Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you in advance,
Dorota
One of our volunteers should contact you shortly.
Hello,
I would love to foster a cat or kittens; I have already filled and submitted a form a month ago. I do not have any other cats, nor have I ever owned a cat. I would like to foster one before adopting. Can you please notify me of fostering procedures?
Thank you!
Hi Moria, We don’t have a record of your application – if you would be kind enough to fill in the Foster form again, a volunteer will get back to you shortly. Thanks sooo much, and sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi, Would you like to provide a foster home to my cat? He is 4 years old, domestic brown tabby. If you are interested for more info and picture, please let me know.
Thanks,
Yasamin
Please note that TCR has over 500 cats in our care, so our foster homes are full. We do have an “Owner/Surrender” program to help, please call our Help For Cats hotline for more information: 416-538-8592, press #3.
