Stray Cat Rescue Program

Roller2Toronto Cat Rescue receives many inquiries each week from caring individuals who are hoping to help the stray cats or kittens in their neighbourhood.  We have created the Stray Rescue Program to help you find homes for healthy, social, adoptable stray cats and kittens.  As part of this program, TCR volunteers will provide information and guidance on how you can trap and sterilize stray cats in your neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, Toronto Cat Rescue can NOT help with trapping stray cats and/or provide foster homes for stray cats, as we just do not have enough foster homes or volunteer resources.

Toronto Cat Rescue Stray Rescue Program allows you the use of our volunteers and our website to assist you in your efforts to find a new home for the cats you are caring for. The cats or kittens stay with you in your home, and once they have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated they will be posted on our website and affiliated websites (ie. PetFinder.com and Adopt-A-Pet). Toronto Cat Rescue adoption coordinators will recommend your cat(s) to suitable potential adopters.

For more information or to apply for this program please email tcr.surrender@gmail.com. Due to the high volume of inquiries, phone messages will not be returned.  You will be asked to complete the TCR Stray Rescue Application 2012 and email it to TCR. Thank you for taking the time to find these cats a new, safe, forever home. We will do all that we can to assist you.

  1. Hi! I saw a cat get hit by a car today, but survived. She could still walk properly, and the body is in one-piece. I am confident that this cat belongs to my neighbour. The cat is always outside alone. I see her in my backyard, in the parking area, and just outside my house. She is always alone, and I don’t think her owners are very good. She almost got killed today, and her owners were having fun in the backyard. I don’t know what to do. Should I report them to the police. I don’t want to confront these neighbours because I have been told that they are not very nice people.

    • if the cat is injured, please advise

otherwise, the best thing to do is stroke and pet the cat from time to time, when you see him/her outside. People like the owners you describe generally abandon cats once vet bills come up or if the cat gets pregnant (or sprays urine if a male cat), so stroking and petting and playing with the cat will ensure she remains friendly to people, therefore improving her chances of getting another home if these owners abandon her.

  2. Hello. I have found 2 Cats that are homeless. They have no owners. We need to find a cat shelter that will care for them and not abuse them. Can I give them to the Toronto cat rescue? They would have died without the help of my friends and I. We fed them real cat food and gave them a place to sleep. The problem is, I am allergic to cats, my friend owns a dog, and my other friend has 2 cats of her own and cannot care for the other two.thank you and please reply telling me if I can give them for you. Guys to care for them. Thank you :)

    • marsila, i would suggest that your friend take the 2 cats, even though he/she has a dog. a dog and 2 cats are actually a better match than 4 cats (your other friend already has 2 cats). a dog doesn’t see cats as a threat to his/her home and the cats just sort of put up with the dog. they might even become friends

  3. I have 2 beautiful cats which I am unable to care for anymore. Very loving .. They have both been spayed and vacinated. One is 8 months the other is 15 months. They are calico in color, one being a long hair the other a short hair. I would love to find homes for them

  4. I have 2 incredibly friendly 5 year old male brothers. Because of my living situation I am unable to keep them. I’ve posted ads on ever website I could think of but, everyone only wanted 1 out of the 2…. I really don’t want to separate them. Anyone who knows these very special cats know that there not your average cats. If you can assist me in anyway I would be more then grateful.

    Thank you,

  5. I have a stray that I’m more than willing to adopt but he is unfixed, and I can’t afford to fix him, so I’d have to give him up. What should I do? I need of a christmas miracle…

  6. Hi! I’ve been trying to find the caretakers of cats or colonies in the Toronto Portlands area. I live near there and often see cats and am thinking I could help, perhaps with relief feeding at least over the winter months. I see solo cats here and there and would like to know if they are already been cared for. Also, I see two adult cats — one black one torti, I think, though it’s hard to tell at night — near Commissioners St and Logan. There is a basic shelter there and a feeding station. I also just saw a post for a free large 2-cat shelter available for pick up that might be handy for these babies.

I’m in the midst of taking care of a small cat family near me, near Lakeshore and Booth. Not sure if I will be able to home them all —- working on it! But if they end up remaining in the area maybe we could trade off feeding care from time to time? Would love to hear from anyone who might have info about cats in the area.
