Toronto Cat Rescue receives many daily calls from owners asking us to take in their family pets, which for various reasons they no longer are able to keep. Because our foster homes are always full, our solution is the Owner Surrender Program.
Toronto Cat Rescue Owner Surrender Program allows you use of our volunteers and our website to assist you in your efforts of finding your cat a new home. If your cat is healthy, social and adoptable, we can provide assistance in finding homes for these loved pets. Your cat will remain with you in your home and be posted on the Available Cats section of our website, and on websites we are affiliated with (ie. PetFinder.com and Adopt-A-Pet.com). Toronto Cat Rescue adoption coordinators will recommend your cat to suitable potential adopters, and then you can set-up a time to have the potential adopter meet your cat. If you and the adopter are happy with the adoption, then you will have them fill in the TCR adoption contract, collect the adoption fee (mail both to TCR) and be safe in the knowledge that your cat has been adopted into an amazing new family.
For detailed information and to apply for this program please call 416-538-8592 (press #3) or email tcr.surrender@gmail.com. We also ask that you complete the Owner Surrender Application and email it to TCR. Thank you for taking the time to find your cat a new, safe, forever home. We will do all that we can to assist you.

Hello, I have a beautiful Silver Tabby – Russian Blue cat whom I love dearly but sadly must give up as she does not get along with the other 4 (rescue) cats in my home. I have tried to acclimatize her for the last 3 years to the other cats – even tried using Feliway (natural pheromone spray to calm her) – to no avail. It breaks my heart to have her live with so much anxiety on a daily basis and have reluctantly come to the realization that she would be better off in a home with no other cats. Sofie likes people but other cats stress her out. She will be 11 years old this July and is in good health (albeit overweight, which the vet attributes to stress-eating).

We have a 6 year old orange tabby, (female orange tabby’s are very rare)….but she is a very nervous cat and has separation anxiety. She has another cat who she is with all day, but since my husband and I now are out of the house 12 hours, she has started overgrooming and peeing on things to show her disapproval. She would be best with someone who would be home all day and can give her the attention she needs. She was on Comilcalm in the past which does help, but she becomes sedated and sleeps all day (so we took her off it). She was a rescue cat from the Humane Society, she has had a hard life, having eye surgery as a kitten, she has been very nervous her entire life as a result. She’s a great cat, very vocal and can say mama and hello, plays fetch and loves her catnip. I am very sad we are attempting to re home her, but I can see she needs more support during the day with us out of the home. If you may be able to help us out, it would be appreciated or any suggestions you would have.
Sincere thanks. Carrie

Hi Carol – Please call our “Help For Cats” line for more information on how TCR may help: 416-538-8592, press #3, TCR has an owner/surrender program.
I guess you’ve already tried those electrical hose-like covers? They are designed for aesthetic purposes but I would think could also provide protection against chewing teeth.
It’s is good that you are disclosing. You obviously love your cat and want the right home for him.
I once had a cat that would relentlessly pursue plastic bags to chew on. More amusing than a hazard however.
Good luck to you both.
Boo-boo Joe cannot come to my new apartment when I move at the end of January.
He is an 8 year old Champagne tabby, short haired, handsome and affectionate although shy at first. I have a huge problem here. I know that it is difficult enough to find a home for an older cat but this one comes with a fetish for electrical cables. He chews everything from lamp cords to power tools or computer cables. Has cost me a small fortune in remedies, vet visits and replacement cords over the years. His bad behaviour increased last year when his feline companion died. He needs feline company in a controlled area with no electrical cords. I cannot cope with the idea of him spending the rest of his life in a small cage waiting to be adopted. It is only fair to the humans though to warn them that he may be a furry fire-hazaard.
Please help I don’t want him to be put down.
