When you adopt a cat from Toronto Cat Rescue you save two lives; the one you adopt and the one you make room for.

TO ADOPT: Please call TCR’s adoption line: (416) 538-8592, press 1 and leave a message / email, include your name & phone number: tcr.adoptions@gmail.com / fill in the online form below.
Our adoption fee is $175. Each cat has a two week assessment period in their foster home before being available for adoption. This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the medical attention they need and we learn about their personalities, likes & dislikes. Our fee includes: spay or neuter, vaccination (receive a rabies vaccination, if age appropriate) and includes 6 weeks of free pet insurance.
I really don’t think your adoption should be so much. A lot of people who may want a cat may not be able to afford it.
Agreed it may cover the spay/nueter fee (not sure) but the cats are still better off in a loving home not spayed/neutered than to be in a cage.
Please try and give the cats a better home than make money off these poor creatures !
Shali,
TCR does NOT make ANY money “off of” our cats. They are not being sold, they are being adopted-out. We are an 100% volunteer organization which relies solely on donations to provide medical care to the cats we rescue, whether it be their spay/neuter, vaccinations or something much more serious such as infection or surgery. If someone is not able/willing to invest $175 (which does include spay/neuter, initial vaccinations & 6 weeks of free pet insurance) in order to save a life for life – it is not a commitment to take lightly – then they are certainly not ready to own a cat which can live to be as old as 20+ years. You would also need to be able to incur the costs of food, litter and of course regular vet care as well as more specialized care & food as they reach their geriatric years. They are kept in loving foster homes while they await their forever homes. Some are in cages in our affiliated pet stores but are very comfortable, well-cared for and have plenty of space to roam. TCR has already rescued these beauties which is why we are committed to screening potential adopters so thoroughly to ensure they go to their Forever homes.
TCR does not make money off of adoption fees. Its important for cats to be spayed and neutered not only to reduce the population but also to reduce risks of other health problems caused by NOT being spayed/neutered. The adoption fees do not even begin to cover the costs TCR incurs. Donations carry them the rest of the way.
If you can not afford a simple adoption fee, how would you afford proper care of your cat should the cat need to see a vet? When a cat becomes sick it can costs thousands of dollars.
Dearest Shali,
I do hope that after reading all of these lovely responses by the individuals which whom responded to your “opinion”, you have been re educated and have learned that unless you know the facts, you should just keep your “opinion” to yourself.
These people are heros for our 4 legged friends, the majority of them do not make money and do this extra work for the love they have in their hearts for these animals. In my opinion (which I will state because I DO know the facts), they all SHOULD be paid for the amount of time, love, and dedication they put into giving these animals a second chance and a good home. Not to mention the emotional distress that many of them have to endure when an animal they have become attached to passes on, or has found a new home.
My point is Shali, that your comment was insulting so please keep it to yourself and get the real story before making a conclusion.
P.s. I do not work at a shelter/humane society but my best friend does. The amound of love and money (out of her own pocket) that she pours out to help find them homes is unbelievable and she (and so many others) deserve a heck of a lot more recognition than this.
If you can’t afford the adoption fee you probably can’t afford the regular vet visits and maintenance that a pet requires either. I know from experience that you shouldn’t have an animal.
i wanna volunteer with u guys please
I didn’t realize that all those wonderful people working at TCRwere volunteers. My handsome Clifford came from there so thank you thank you and Bless you all
It is very nice to see so many warm hearts volunteering to help and save the lives of all these beautiful animals and give them another chance.
Thanks.
Three of our cats are from Toronto Cat Rescue – the oldest of the three will be 15 this year and the two younger ones will be 10!
I think it is so amazing how this organization helps animals who need a loving home. It breaks my heart to see all those animals out on the street who are starving, sick and homeless. It makes me happy to know that amazing people work here and dedicate everyday of their lives to helping these animals!
Thanks so much Tonya – the amazing part is that TCR has no paid staff – everyone at TCR is dedicated volunteers volunteering their time and talent to save the cats!
I too will add my thanks to the wonderful TCR volunteers without whom I would not have my Mooch (hey, where IS he hiding, little furball) I hope that more people will take this route and do what they can to save 2 lives – the cat that is adopted and the cat that now has room.
